DescriptionOn this page, we open on a fantastic ½ splash of a first panel in a feline T&A bar. The bar scene really grounds the whole page as per his usual Spiegle took no artistic shortcut to render the scene. Just look at all which is happening (how many characters are there, here?), his masterful use of depth and perspective to point the reader’s eye to the two characters having a conversation. Also of note, the bar is well established for what it is without looking raunchy. The second panel is continuing the conversation between those two cats. I love the body acting of the one facing us, calling one of his employees. The third panel is important in the sense that it features one of the main players in the story. I love how Spiegle drew his facial features as it’s immediately clear it’s not someone who would have had many professional opportunities outside of the bar sector. And take notice of the fact that Spiegle took time with the writing on the box he is carrying, a nice little detail that adds believability to the scene. Then the fourth gives us an important information about an upcoming character and tying the first 5 pages with the comic we are reading. That panel looks pretty banal but look closely how many characters are in it. 4 plus some backgrounds and yet everything reads super fluidly with two point of focus (on the bar owner and his employee). And then the employee reacts shakenly when he hears one bit of information creating tension within the story and a cliffhanger at the end of the page. Why did he react like that and to what exactly, prompting you dear reader to turn the page. His shaken expression is again, perfectly on point. Lots of tiny choices, great backgrounds and acting on this page which makes for great , instantly readable storytelling that looks effortless, yet another proof of the mastery of artist who drew it. Finally, I find amusing that while this scene looks very tame by nowadays standards, this is not a page I could picture being (easily) greenlighted in the current very politically correct editorial environment. The gritty 80s were good for that as well 😉 Social/Sharing |

I like that the panties on the stripper is leopard spot print. For a kitty bar, that might as well be nude.
