DescriptionThis seemed an odd choice for me but I just found the image and colors to be extremely compelling. I had seen a few of these color plates in person before, and knew from experience how luminous they are and how well they present. After ruminating on it a bit, I finally pressed the trigger and launched an offer. Thanks very much to JP for working with me on terms and time! Now that it is in hand, the appeal has only grown. I'm never going to be somebody motivated to chase an actual pen-and-ink page from the books, so this is a wonderful commemoration for me of a seminal series. The hero shot of Supes is fantastic, and the deep blacks and contrasting red/yellow gradients make for an excellent foil against each other. No Bats/Carrie, but we get the iconic television screens with Lola Chong, a nice shot of the mutants, and a couple panels of ol' Gordon. There is also the nice nod to Harlan Ellison, and let's not forget to pour one out for poor Dan Musk. Social/Sharing |

Black night, black night,
I don't need black night,
I can't see Dark Knight.
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me.
Black night is a long way from home.

Wúnderbar, friendo! Regardless of whether it's pen and ink or not, always awesome to have a piece of comic history in your hands.

Your little color Miller tells you JP loves you so
You said your Lola only smiled on her TV show
Lynn Varley’s happy when your sorry head is EM pulsed
I hope you make it when the page is 38 years old
You're dripping like a saturated sunrise
You're spilling Janson’s overflowing ink
You're ripped at every page but you're a masterpiece
And Super tearing through the pages and the ink
Everything is blue
Art fills, warheads, mag fields
And now I'm covered in the colors
Pulled apart at the seams
And it's blue
And it's blue
Everything is grey
His hair, his smoke, his dreams
And now Gordon’s devoid of color
He don't know what it means
And he's blue
And he's blue
Bruce had a mission in the mourning
When Dark Knight came through
I know I've only felt religion when I fight with Supes
You got your Miller radiation 'til your boys shrink too
And I'm still faking Carrie’s mourning when she's not with Bruce

The colored art popped back decades ago, and they still do now. I always love how Lynn made Superman a black silhouette with only red color. Congrats on a great addtion to your wonderful collection.

While I enjoyed the art style in this book at the time it was released, it wasn't until I got into collecting original art that I realized just how sparse and open for color it was, which immediately made me appreciate just how integral Lynn Varley's colors were to the project. I've since been of the opinion that it was the colors more than even the line art itself, that made the published book look as good as it did and still does. Unlike most original comic art, Dark Knight is a rare exception where the line art looks much better WITH the colors added. Congrats on getting such a memorable page!

Memorable page! Love the colors, dialog, and everything else. I should have grabbed one of these when they first hit the market (a familiar refrain, I know)

Not only is it a great moment in the book, opening up the powerless and lawless Gotham City for the rise of the Sons of Gotham to subsume the Mutant gang, but it reminds you of the sacrifice that Supes makes in almost getting completely burnt up in the explosion. The hero shot is most apt. Varley's rich colors on this page in particular show the breadth of her palatte. Impactful, indeed. Great score!
