DescriptionOne of my favorite modern comics is Jeremy Bastian's whimsical Cursed Pirate Girl, and several times I've asked artists to stretch beyond the usual superhero commission requests to give her a try. Pica chose to place her on the prow of a galleon, gazing at a distant shore. She's so eager to see that she has stepped in front of the fo'c'sle railing. He did a great job rendering the rigging and masthead, changing the grain of the shading to imply different objects and textures. I particularly like the sunlight shining on the bowsprit. The Girl's eyepatch is barely implied by the string on the side of her face. This piece is on A3 paper, about 11.75x16.5 inches. Pica signs his work either "Miko" or "Komi." Social/Sharing |

I think Pica puts as much linework in this as Bastain does for his drawings. He shows off his work instead of just shading everything into a blur.
