Description
A gorgeous Immonen / von Grawbadger joint that leaves you starstruck. With a composition that captures all the power and scope of a sci-fi blockbuster movie poster (and celestial, cinematic lighting as pure as the heavens themselves), it’s also a pretty sweet artistic flex: another inking triumph that allows Wade his moment in the sun -and- stars.

Very grateful to have achieved a collecting goal during one of Felix’s cover drops a while back: landing an Empress cover! Yowza! Thanks again, Felix!

Interesting multi-perspective arrangement, bringing together diefferent story elements. Strong use of black areas in the face of the Empress (?), and the eye is probably drawn to the fight scene first. (Unless it's one of those visual puzzles, where you see a rabbit and I see a... oh, never mind.) The combination of the ship and light effects, with the head of the Empress, is visually very pleasing. Nice cover - congrats!

Totally getting the sci-fi blockbuster movie poster feel/appeal you spoke of right away when looking at this epic Immonen and WVG cover, brilliantly inked! Getting that clear definition for figures against an already dark space background, really well done! congrats.

This series didn't do much for me, but man, Immonen's art taken on it's own merit is still a helluva thing! This splash is outstanding!

Brilliant composition and contrast.  For me, that large face steals the show.  Those eyes are simply captivating.  I love that backward glance, as if she's watching the other scene being depicted on the cover.  And you're absolutely right about the movie poster vibe.  Stuart and Wade have really outdone themselves with this one.  Congratulations Jason!

Congrats Jason! An absolutely wonderful compostion. The blackness radiating out from the center and then carving out the face to the left is a killer component. If this were a tattoo I'd praise the bold black areas that work hand in hand with open skin. Masterful.

Thank you for posting and sharing your artwork!  Today is CAF's 23rd birthday and it took people like you who love comic art and the hobby enough to keep the website going.  The enthusiasm for this hobby comes in all forms of pieces that we cherish.  From nostalgia driven historical pieces, to collecting creators or characters we love, or just a personal piece that reminds us of why we love the artform, this community is here to cheer every piece on.  Bill Cox says this is my 100,000th comment and it'll go down in the annals of Bill and CAF as such.  I'd say it's my 60th comment for today.  Lots of art gets sold off and deleted, so it's just another number to me.  What's probably more important is that we continue to celebrate each other's collecting successes by sharing art and sharing a bit of ourselves, which goes back to how we can show our enthusiasm and make the hobby a place for every collector.  So again, thank you for sharing your art Jason!  Consider me Empressed!

Marcus, as always, your comment is a wonder and delight (CAF is 23?!?  And this is your 100K-th comment?!?!?).  I can't say that I'm worthy of such an honor as your 100,000th comment, but Immonen and von Grawbadger obviously are, so thank you, sir, for funneling an -enormous- amount of your time, energy, and knowledge into the collections of EVERYONE here on CAF (from first-time posters to old, grizzled collectors alike!).  We have -ALL- benefited from the IMMEASURABLE good cheer and indelible, special atmosphere and tone you set and share with us all here on CAF.  Thank you. 🙏

Wowza! Man, this really DOES look like a promo poster for a new Science Fiction movie or television series, and the genius "images within an image design is so outstanding! I can't even clear my thoughts up quickly enough to say exactly what I love about this. Suffice it to say that, however, that everything I love about this is exactly what YOU love about it, Jason! My pick of 2026 so far!

I didn't know or forgot about this one. I'll echo and agree on the great classic movie poster feel. Immonen made great use of light and composition to center the piece and the reader's eye. Jealous congrats ;)
