DescriptionRagman was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert in 1976 and has been "re-invisioned" at least three or four times, changing alter ego names and backstories. But, I loved the original.The backstory involves a Viet Nam veteran (Rory Regan) who returns to live with his father. His father had worked in a circus and now owns a junkyard. His father and his friends find a mob stash of loot inadvertently tossed away. Unsurprisingly, the criminals come looking for their money. The mob, wanting no witnesses, cause power lines to fall, electrifying Rory, his father and some of his father's friends (all formerly from the circus and all in the wrong place at the wrong time). But, instead of being killed, Rory picks up their memories (and their skills and strength, including the circus strong-man, acrobat, etc.). He goes after the mob, avenging his own apparent death and becomes the guardian of his lower class neighborhood. The original series lasted only 5 issues, and this is the cover to the final issue. Fantastic cover! Cool, classic Kubert, jazzing on a character he appeared to really enjoy drawing.

So great! It's obscurity in DC history combined with the talent of Joe Kubert made people take notice. When you only saw it in the price guide, it always piqued interest for those who could get a full run to read. Kubert puts the drama all out there on the cover, from the emotional standpoint of resolving his origin story to the greed of man over their own safety!

Great choice. Love the layout and design and the action is so well executed. It swirls around the center of the piece drawing your eye through the scene.

Never read Ragman, but your write up, together with this killer Kubert art, makes me wish I had. It's amazing how well Joe Kubert could render a scene that really drew readers in. This cover of Ragman punching out one gangster amidst a buring inferno while another gangster tries to catch money floating into the flames, is fascinating. Kubert always made telling stories in pictures look easy, even when it wasn't. It's no wonder he's considered a master of comic art. Great pick-up, congrats!
