Description

Ayers cinched his reputation as a horror-Western artist with Magazine Enterprises' Ghost Rider franchise, which ran roughly parallel with a Marvel/Atlas Ghost Rider periodical. Ayers' larger identification during the 1960s with the Marvel superhero titles (as in Fantastic Four, etc.,) eclipsed his frontier horrors, but he returned with a vengeance to the Gothic Western idiom during the 1970s et seq., on such titles as DC's Jonah Hex. This gasp-inducing Ayers cover served in its day to introduce a story called "Ghost Rider vs. Frankenstein." A misprint at left cites Issue #9, but the cover indeed did adorn Ghost Rider #10.
