Star-Lord (Vol. 2) Issue #1 Pg. 1

This is so beautifully drawn by Javier Garron.  I have become a big fan of his art, and wow does he do an amazing job with this intensely tragic origin story.  Great addition!

Thanks Paul! I am happy to say that there will be a few more great examples of his artwork popping in over the next few months. There were some great pages left from this series, so I couldn't help but purchase a few of them. Regarding the emotion, he was able to render an amazing distance shot of a boy, utterly crying, with slouched shoulders, limp arms, and tears streaming down his face. I am impressed! It's rare to see such emotion drawn in a large piece let alone this small space. Yet it was the proper angle for the moment. If the angle is to close you feel like you are comforting the subject through the trauma. With this angle, he is left utterly alone. Hence, the story of Star-Lord!

Stunning page from Star Lord by Javier Garron. I think Garron does a remarkable job of bringing home the impact of his mother's death on Peter Quill. The two relatively quiet panels at the top are jarringly shattered with the horrific central panel. The sudden cut to the image of the murdered mother increases the scene's impact. And the final panel of Peter alone and crying is heartbreaking. Fantastic pick-up!

Artistically, impactful is the blood smattered word Hate and questionably more hidden throughout. I like to belive the other letters spell out Badoon in a last uttering gasp of blood soaking thoughts. Like an etched memory of hatred for the Badoon that took his mothers life. Afterwards, you move through the story of his pain than becomes his single focus for vengance. A hyperfixation that is his childhood coping mechanism. A fixation to a fault, which is why he runs with the wrong kind of people. His Daddy. Yondu and crew. If you haven't read this series, I might suggest it. It was quite fun. And the word puzzle on the center pannel of this piece will have you coming back for more.

Your literal take on Dead Mom with music is poetry for the sadness. Dead Mom! Dead Mom! A trully... trully sad wrong. Yet your mixture of words creates a perfect song.

Lovely line art, almost anime inspired. Congrats on getting a page with such raw emotion. These types of pages have more "meaning" than any all-out action page, as cool as those may be.

I like a descent mix of emotions in my artwork, so there is a place for them all. I connect with a sad piece to ground me/empathy, humor to uplift me, love to feel warmth, extesential to live in my head, fear to experience each moment, and action to live beyond my reality. Sadly, I feel that there is a dearth of saddness/love artwork in mainstream comics. We need more Barry Windsor-Smith style artwork for love and Javier Garrón for sadness.

Ya! Seriously, Badoon! Why you got to be like that? Can't you just go kill your own Mothers?

The Badoon are like, "No we just love all the mothers too much and they keep dying."

Answer, it's because they've been hanging out with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg a bit too much.
