Description

In the waning days of their satellite era came this Gerry Conway story, in which the JLA faced a group of genetically engineered Ani-Men led by the lion-man Maximus Rex. On this page, Firestorm and Elongated Man give Aquaman a serum which will reverse the animal transformation, while Reena, their cat-lady ally, looks on. There's one extra figure silhouetted on Firestorm's hovercraft in the first panel, but no other character appears in this part of the story. I wonder whether Flash was initially written into this part; in the final draft, he ends up staying on the satellite to nurse a broken arm and watch the monitor. In the final panel, Superman scouts the island fortress of Maximus Rex. The second panel has a nice stop-motion sequence of Aquaman flipping on board.

Great acrobatic and arcing action all around! Aquaman dives down while Superman dives and turns up in the last two panels is some nice storytelling by Patton! Tanghal inks are super smooth as expected!

Really nice page by Patton. I get Curt Swan vibes from this one. And I really like that last panel with Superman.
