Description

This unfinished work adapts a Chinese folk tale which turns out to be a deluge narrative, i.e. "Noah's Ark." It starts something like this:

"Because of man’s moral decay, Buddha saw that people in the world would be eliminated by heaven. The great and compassionate Bodhisattva wanted to save the world at the last moment before the disaster, so he turned into an old woman and went to the human world, begging for food from house to house. At one house after another, all over the village, no one treated her well. They all kicked her out of the house, and some used filthy words and even pushed and beat her..."

This page shows conditions before the flood, with rich people lounging in a house of pleasure, and a panic beginning in the streets outside. It goes nearly to the edge of its 12"x18" paper, and every panel brims with background detail. Daxiong told me that this project was never completed.

This page was discussed in my interview with Ruben DaCollector on October 12, 2025.

Amazingly thin linework detail!  Guo does this in a highly intensive manner to bring these exotic scenes out of history into modern storytelling.

First of his interior work I've ever seen, and it might be better than his covers.
