Insignia was for the U.S.S. Escambia (AO-80), a US Navy refuel unit that had the dangerous job of fueling various vessels during the invasion of the Marshall Islands, aircraft carriers as they launched strikes against the Philippines, task-force vessels supporting the invasion of Okinawa and aircraft flying raids against the Japanese. The ship received five battle stars during the war. Image area measures approx. 6.25x8-1/8". 1940s. Art is by Disney artist Hank Porter (1900-1951), who provided art for many Disney insignias during World War II. Sheet is evenly aged and has some scattered handling wear w/crease through art at Carioca's neck. Art is o/w VF/Exc.
