DescriptionGus Mager reached his greatest acclaim with his Mager's Monks and later, Hawkshaw the Detective, an offshoot of Sherlocko the Monk. But during Mager's career, he tried his hand at many things, including painting, and was included in the 1913 NY Armory exhibition. But back to comic strips, in the 1920s, Mager created a George Storm-inspired adventure strip, Oliver's Adventures. The line work and story very much followed the pattern found in Storm's strips, and Mager did a credible job with the strip. Originals are quite scarce, and this example from October 7, 1927, is one of three that I ran across.Social/Sharing |
