Pure Buscema! You can see that he did practice with all these faces and anatomy in prelims before with how refined these images look.

I always thought that Buscema's inks were a kind of refined Colletta style. Definitely not Giacoia or Sinnott, but a thoughtful and skilled combination of pen and brush. I would have loved to see the pencils on this gem before Big John started his inks. Did he just do breakdowns or roughs ala Ditko and then start inking? He had the advantage of knowing the best line before inking, whereas other inkers had to choose the best line from the finished pencils. I have seen Buscema pencils from his 1980s Avengers run and they were very rough, but brilliantly inked by the great Tom Palmer. Perhaps the pencils for this Savage Sword page were equally as loose?
