DescriptionAs far as personal "grail" pieces go, this one is as silly and frivolous as they get, but it would be hard to overstate how long I spent trying to track it down. My interest in original art began with a chance rediscovery of artist Earl Norem, and among the many varied things he worked on over the many decades of his career was a small handful of cards for Topps' 1988 card series Dinosaurs Attack.I was smack dab in the target audience for these cards when Topps released the series (a sort of spiritual followup to the Mars Attacks cards from the early 60s), and this particular card was an immediate favorite. Even by the standards of the series this one was over the top with both the humor and the violence - I mean it's an elderly woman blasting the face off a dinosaur with her shotgun, what more could you want? Once I was bitten by the OA bug, I was determined to find the original art for this card, but had zero luck for years. I'd reached out directly to Topps, to friends of Norem's, to collectors of his artwork, to dealers who had dealt with Topps material in the past, but always kept coming up empty until I stumbled upon Matt Corrigan's collection here on CAF in 2020. Although some Dinosaurs Attack OA has since appeared on Heritage, at that time his art for the hilarious "Lunch Break" card was the only original artwork from the series I'd ever seen. I contacted Matt, asking if he might be willing to share the details of how he'd managed to find the piece and long story short, he helped broker a deal for something I'd spent almost a decade looking for. If you're interested in learning more about Dinosaurs Attack, I highly recommend that you check out the Launchpad Podcast (hosted by Matt and his friend Aaron) where they interview Gary Gerani, the creator/editor of the card series. This particular card was originally drawn by John Nemec and painted in gauche by Earl Norem, whom Gary originally hoped to have paint the entire series. As it worked out, Earl's schedule didn't have room for that many pieces, so he ended up only painting the art for five cards, including this one which I'm happy to have in my collection. Thanks! It's a special one for me, as silly as that sounds, but it's always nice to see a long hunt come to a successful end.

Thanks! The artwork for this series is fairly small (about 5"x7"), but it's still a favorite. Best of luck tracking a piece down.

Absolutely wonderful! It's just at the fringe of bad taste to be dangerous and edgy enough to be the successor to the original. If it offends moms, they did their job right.

And it still brings a stupid grin to my face every time I look at it. Thanks again for helping make it happen. Hope you don't mind me plugging your podcast, it's a must listen/see for anyone curious about the series.

How big is it? I would hang it somewhere where I could look at it all day long.

Big thanks for the compliments on the piece. It's fairly small at approximately 5" x 7" - I've jokingly said that on a per-square-inch basis, it was probably one of the more expensive art purchases I'd made at the time, but it was well worth the cost.

Still the best card art ever. I keep coming back to look at it. I just read your story of tracking down the art. I can appreciate the hard work. I found a cover this year I searched a decade for. The worst is knowing where the art is but they won't sell.
