DescriptionWhen I found out Eduardo’s only US appearance this year was set for Kansas City’s Planet Comicon, I reached out to my friend and fellow Risso fan, Ken Martin, to see if he wanted to visit a new con and new city… and get ourselves some brand-spanking new Risso commissions.Of course he did. After all, you can never have enough of Eduardo’s remarkable commission work. So, we collectively set our sights on KC. Now the only question was what should I ask Eduardo to draw? I’ve been extremely fortunate to commission Eduardo many times in the past, starting with Captain Jack Sparrow back in 2007. Since then, I’ve added Batman & Gordon, Cap vs Iron Man, Indiana Jones, and the Mandalorian and Grogu. Clearly, I’ve covered a pretty wide gamut. One I hadn’t covered, however, was the original man in black himself; that wily fox, Zorro. And since Eduardo had recently drawn a short story for a European reprint of Alex Toth’s old Zorro stories, I knew this would be right up his alley. The final result is everything I could have hoped for. Not only does it have the usual Risso mastery of positive and negative space, but Don Diego’s flare and daring take center stage thanks to his smile and Risso’s brilliant body language. As always, it was great to see Eduardo and his son, Nico. They are two of the nicest gents and always treat me with kindness. I’m also happy to report Ken and I (and his phenomenal wife, Madeline) loved the city, and that KC BBQ definitely lives up to its reputation! As I’m sure you can guess, this won’t be my last commission from Eduardo. I’ve got several ideas in mind, including an involved one I’ve been thinking about for a while. After years of hemming and hawing, I think I’m finally ready to pull the trigger on it. :o) Social/Sharing |

Well thought out action composition to highlight his mastery of using negative space! How he is able to get those tight lines for spears without messing up is impressive.

Gorgeous action. Love the figure in the background trying to get a jab in, as well.

Fabulous Zorro commission by Eduardo Risso! Love the composition of this piece with Zorro leaping from the roof of a Spanish Church towards the shimmering spears of his enemies! The silhouetted church with its three arches and three bells, provides a powerful backdrop for the scene. Brilliant work by Risso. Great pick-up, congrats!
