Description
Ed Cartier is best known for his sci-fi and fantasy illos especially in the pulps and digests (he also illustrated the Shadow) . This pulpy illo was done in 1949 for the King features serialized dialy mystery in this case Framed for Murder by Frank Norris.

This is a close to the Shadow as you can get.  Love this piece of art.  Cartier's line work at this stage of good career is deviously precise and flowing.
