DescriptionLast year we went to see the wonderful exhibition of her famous Flower Fairy books in Liverpool. So it is brilliant and lucky to be able to purchased a couple of pieces recently. Will get the other up next.Artist: Cicely Mary Barker (1895-1973) Title: Pencil study drawing inscribed ‘The Ribwort Plantain Fairy’, c.1948 Medium: Pencil on paper Size: image size 215mm x 150mm Signed: no Inscription: On the front in pencil “The Ribwort Plantain Fairy”, and top left No 18. Frame verso: “The Ribwort Platain Fairy (From “Flower Fairies of the Wayside”) by Cicely Mary Barker. Notes: Flower Fairies of the Wayside was first published in 1948; London, Blackie. Cicely Mary Barker always used real-life models for her paintings. Most of the models came from the kindergarten her sister Dorothy ran in the back room of the house in which they lived. Thank you. Yes it is not easy to find her original drawings or paintings, most are still kept within the family.

Very nice! You get all that cherubic exhuberence from the child captured by Barker that lifts the mood in this raw pencil prelim piece.
