Description

The very first "adult" fantasy novel I ever read as a child was Elfstones of Shannara. It looks like another CAF user has a similar story and already has a prelim for that cover, though!

Luckily, I was able to snag this one, my first piece of art by Darrell K. Sweet, an artist I have admired for a long, long time. And what's even better, it's associated with the (arguably) best book in the Shannara series! lol

I'll include a picture of the original cover in my photos here so anyone checking it out won't have to search for it.

It's really interesting to compare the composition of this piece to the official, original cover. I love examining artifacts of geek art history like this. Seeing the piece in person and getting to notice all the little details that get lost in pictures is really cool.

Acrylics on board. 7x4.25"

Unsigned with a signed COA and provenance from the Sweet estate.

This is great! You get to see the initial raw thoughts on what it looked like before some of the ideas and mood were refined out.
