This is stupendous illustration work! So much character in this old man's withered face and body language when he's shrouded by the richly decorated clothing and setting.
I agree with you, in fact my opinion for technique and composition this is perhaps the most beautiful story drawn by Alarico Gattia.
For the image of the old nobleman she was inspired by the actor Boris Karloff.
