Description

X-MEN: THE WEDDING ALBUM
SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLUE & GOLD

This X-Men Wedding special was probably one of the first oversized/magazine size X-Men books I ever got, when I first started to heavily collect in the mid 90’s. I recall not knowing how best to store and keep it in good condition when all the other books fit so nicely together in regular bags/boards and comic boxes.

The X-Men wedding between Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey (Phoenix) was a big event in the lives of the X and a lot of well deserved hype for the long awaited (30 years) build of their romance. Finally we would see Slim and Marvel Girl get hitched in X-Men issue #30 (March of 1994).

The Wedding Album was a really fun X-tra to go with their marriage issue, we get to see more downtime and character pieces in these books, that would really highlight how they have lives outside costumes and combat. This page features Jubilee confessing to Jean that she read her diary and that she really needed to see how these “adults” in her life came to fall in love and decide to get married; since she really didn’t get to know her parents too well. She retracts her feelings on what she thought marriage was and it’s some beautiful sentiments that Lobdell writes for these characters in their very consistently real distinct voices.

Churchill’s art with Elliott’s inks are absolutely beautiful in detail and shading. The art really captures this era and time very well; the clothing primarily made of jeans/denim, Jubilee’s large square glasses, leggings under jean shorts with bandana, big belt buckle and bright red lipstick are iconic designs for the 90’s. We really know the place and time with even just the images alone. And I absolutely love getting some shots of the X-Mansion (Xavier Institute) and in cold snowy winter none-the-less.

I remember this well.  And had the same feelings about the size and format.  Pretty cool that you actually managed to score a page from it.  A big fan of Churchill's work.  Even with all the changing styles.

The Elliot inks really bring emotion and a warmth to the Churchill art!  With Cable, X titles, and Deadpool of the 90's, he had a real energetic detailed style that was more musclebound and stiff than the fluidity we see here.

I know you like these X pages with emotional beats, man, and this falls right in line!  Vingage-y goodness from very early Churchill.  Congrats!

Memorable page from the X-Men Wedding Album issue! I love this scene of Juilee apologizing to Jean for reading her diary. Jubilee is full of awkward teenage emotions, and seems genuinely sorry--but not sorry--for reading Jean's private thoughts. The whole scene is beautifully drawn and marbelously inked. Great work by Ian Churchill and Randy Elliott. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
