Psylocke - Uko Smith

I somehow landed this gorgeous Psylocke illustration from Uko Smith, at SDCC 2022, just after I purchased a Psylocke from David Mack. I didn’t know who he was at this time but since then, I have visited his booth each year and purchased.

I really enjoy his stylings, color choices, and background treatments. These designs have some tonal age quality to them. This one in particular has a really great choice to tie in a green highlight (seen in the arms, legs, boots and hair) to the purple colors. I love his choice to have Psylocke’s purple hair flow into a greenish color wash. And having Psylocke’s pose to be full of attitude, it’s not quite a striking attack pose, but a “are you really looking to mess with me?” And the energy coming off her sword in case you do want to mess with her is a nice touch, she is psychically charged up and ready to go.

The tall verticality of Psylocke is stressed here as even the signature goes straight up! And when the sword dares to go perpendicular, the lightning strikes from above!

Such a strong organic quality to those colors...all those hues of blue, purple, and green. Love that in combo with her pose. Sweet con get, man, congrats!
