Incredible gladiatorial battle snapshot! You can see that man's face of helplessness as he realizes that it might be his last moment alive!

Amazing gladiator painting by Richard Clifton-Dey. Beautiful composition here, with the two combatants caught in a dramatic moment of battle. The fierce expression on the gladiator on the right is matched only by the suprised look on the fighter on the left. Dey's ability to render these gladiators in such near-photographic realism is uncanny. Their bodies are painted perfectly down to the muscles in the arms. The clothing and helmets--even the feathers on the helmets--are so detailed that you believe it's real even though you know it isn't. Clearly, Dey is a well-trained artist who's artistic eye is almost flawless. Truly a superior illustration by a masterful artist. Sincere congrats!
