This is the original painting created by Dave Pether (1943-2021) that was used to illustrate the cover by well-known author of WWII books, Leo Kessler (pen name of Charles Whiting) - for the paperback edition published by Futura, 1977 (I show the published book cover for reference only). Excellently rendered, strongly detailed and Handpainted in gouache and acrylics on illustration board in a large format. The piece carries a label on the back signed by the artist's widow/executor attesting to authenticity.
