The villains sacrifice one of their own to force Mister No to fire his rifle-mounted grenade, which takes half a minute to reload.
“I feel like I'm back in the war, blood of Judas! And in war, there's only one damn rule. Kill or die!”
“Nooo!” (No fires a grenade, killing one bad guy. His rifle tumbles down the slope.)
“Now!” (The other bad guys charge, guns blazing.)
“Blood of Judas! They’re already here. I have to hurry. Now it’s time for the other rifle loaded with a grenade.”
Mind you, the bad guys thought he had only one grenade ready to fire, not two. Page 86 establishes that the whine of the grenade’s tail fins is “Fiiiii” rather than the “bang” of a rifle or the “ratatatat” of an automatic weapon. So when page 87 ends with a second “Fiiii,” we know the bad guys are in trouble.
Not being a war expert, I did not realize that regular rifles could even fire a grenade, but yes, this is a real thing.
