Months after initiating a romantic relationship with his maid Klara, Prince Rudolf returns from a trip to find her pensive... and bruised.

“Mayerling, June 1888.”

“It is a pleasure to have you here again, your highness.”

“Where else could I stay, my dear Loschek? In Vienna I cannot tolerate the presence of my wife, nor of my parents. Miss Kaspar does not want to receive me anymore. At least in this place I can find refuge, and your friendship. It is only a pity that you are not staying here this weekend.”

“You will not miss me. I have left all the instructions with Klara... Huh? You seem surprised, Prince.”

“I... eh, I thought she might have left. I thought she resigned, after... er...”

“Resigned? And why on earth? She keeps telling me how happy she is here.”

“Klara! Where are you? I was waiting for you in my study with dinner. Is everything okay? Klara? Is there something wrong?... Ah!”

Does anyone else think that Loscheck leaving the amorous prince alone in the house all weekend with his maid is not such a great idea?
