Norman Baer story illustration for "He Has The Bloodiest Job In Te World" by David L. Goodrich. Cavalier Magazine April 1961. And he used the great model Steve Holland twice in this one!

Even more sinister with the red color in this original form!  The red glow on the face shows that there is a pool of fresh blood in the basket from previous beheadings!

Exactly! Such a great touch and sadly not published in color.

I love how the victim's face is uplit withthe red reflection of the blood in the basket! How unfortunate that they didn't care to publish that in the magazine.... As sometimes happened back in nthe day, I also find it funny how Steve Holland modelled for not just one or even two, but three of the characters here!

I meant to add that Holland is in there twice as well as the other one i posted. i'll do that later.

Really incredible - to take such a dark scene and make it so compelling is the sign of a master. Congrats on this wonderful illustration!
