DescriptionMartin gains admittance to the "No Visitors Allowed" section of the monastery: “What? Are you sure?” “He told me.” “If so... very well. Follow me. The Venerable Dzordzh wishes to speak to you.” “Er... the Venerable Who?” “Our 'eldest brother.’ And when I say 'eldest' I really mean it. No one knows exactly how old he is, because he has been here longer than any of us. Before he lost his sight, he was an Elder. He lived in absolute poverty in a hut not far from here, the same one that had hosted Father Makarij. That is the man in whose footsteps you are following, correct?” “That's right.” “Then there was a terrible accident: A fire destroyed his hut. The Venerable One was saved by a miracle. Some say he had a vision of the impending disaster.” “Where are we?” “In the ancient ossuary of the monastery. The Venerable Dzhordzh has chosen to place his cell here. It keeps unwanted guests away.” (Renate, sarcastically) “Hmph, I wonder why.” “Venerable Dzhordzh, here are the visitors.” “Come in.” My favorite pages in these books tends to be the ones set in darkness, giving the opportunity for dramatic lighting effects like those seen here. This is my favorite spread in the whole story. So many bones! Also, the inset panels on page 55 are an unusual feature for this series, or for Bonelli books in general. Social/Sharing |

Skull wall catacombs! Sforza decorates these pages unlike anything else we've seen so far.

The use of dramatic lighting in the darkness creates such an intense mood, really highlighting the eerie atmosphere of the Hall of Skulls. The sheer number of skulls is visually striking and adds a real sense of scale and dread. I LOVE skulls!
