I have to say, although I was a fan of the New Mutants and was reading the book at this time, I never did read any of the Annuals. This one in particular, if I remember correctly, I skipped because the idea of this new character who's a musician suddenly becoming the focal point of a double sized issue seemed lame to me. How WAS the story, really?

There's a blurb in my gallery right up, and obviously I'm biased, but I liked this issue. Although never quite A list, I liked that a character was introduced that played a part throughout the series and wasn't just a one off. You get some jelling of the team with Warlock and Doug being new, and I like that it advanced Sam beyond just being the country bumpkin.

As someone who read it for the first time this year, it's a great read for the art alone. McLeod has gone on record to say that his art on the GN was somehow rushed but this one is not so it's (even more) gorgeous. That being said, it is in continuity with the main book at that time so it's not really a standalone that you can read easily.

It's just me being lazy. The reordering system in the galleries is such a slog. I'm not doing it daily for 40 pages. lol

Macleod.put in the time on panel one for a nice establishing shot. Dani's expression in panel five is priceless.
