Such a eerie and almost creepy feel to this piece, owing, I think, to how Beck illustrated the trees. Really different from the norm and I think that's what makes it great. That it was a gift from Jeff makes it all the greater!
A perfect mood for the season! Jeff's gifts over the years have been some of the most meaningful gifts I have ever recieved. Especially since I come from a house that really doesn't exchange gifts as we previously discussed.

For the pencil shows more sunlight
Michael Beck ignores their pleas
A Marvel with the pencils
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They shade the art for just Groot softy
And they grab up all the might

I love this piece, looks amazing - those pencils are absolutely incredible. Really hard to believe that this is just a "prelim" but yeah it would be interesting to see what the final piece was like after seeing this. Jeff is always spot on with his gifts and one of the most generous guys in the hobby so well done to him and congrats to you. Hoping to get to SDCC next year myself, but will be at OAX first, cya there!

That is some fine tuned tonal quality prelim art, it's a great piece with lots of intricate detail, especially the lighter tones used in Z depth.
