Description

The good news is that Nathan survived the crash of his flyer. The bad news is that his rescuers have put him in an isolation chamber, and won't let him out, for his own good. Here's the dialogue of pages 27-31:

“I’m sick, Nathan. Better to say, I’m infected.”

“I have seen infected people all my life, and you don't look like one at all.”

“But it's true. As far as I know, this is a new disease. Unknown.”

“This is a medical center, right? So where is everyone?”

“Well, they're looking for a cure, far away from here.”

“And you want me to believe that they abandoned you down here with a damn robot?”

(Hologram appears) “My daughter was not abandoned, Agent Never. I am watching over her. I am Doctor Loveless, Xenia's mother and coordinator of the team in charge of treating her.”

“What disease does she suffer from, for the record?”

“We are trying to figure that out. All we know is that the risk of contagion is so high that it is more prudent to carry out our research from a safe distance. You have no idea how much I wish I could be there with her. In any case, Xenia is not at any risk. She is constantly assisted by the robotic unit you saw, which is designed to deal with any type of emergency.”

“Anyway, I can't stay.”

“I agree. But you need permission to leave the Habitat, and you don't have that. Before we allow you back into the world, we need to make sure you're not infected.”

“I've been very careful, Mom. I've been sure to avoid any contact with him, leaving it up to Harry.” (Harry is Xenia's robotic companion.)

“I know that, Xenia… but you must understand that we cannot take any chances. We will have to run some tests on you, Agent Never.”

“What if I refuse?”

“I am afraid that you have no choice, unfortunately.”

“All right, Dr. Loveless. But first I want to speak to my colleagues at the Agency.”

“That seems fair. I will contact them for you. In the meantime, I ask that you trust me.”

Notice the height differences among the three characters.

Lots of those vertical and diagonal lines that look more and more like a cage to keep Agent Never contained!

I can't tell if it's raining outside or if it's raining indoors!

I think the lines add to the sense of isolation for the two main characters.
