DescriptionWhen I got onto Javi's commission list, I went back and forth with Iciar (Javi's rep) on the subject for the commission. Given my awesome experience with Paul Pope blending Batman, abstract expressionism and Frank Miller's writing, I decided to give Javi the same direction. On this commission, I wanted more of a graffiti rather than abstract expressionism. I also gave Javi the following text from Frank's Batman Year One:"You can never escape me. Bullets don't harm me. Nothing harms me. But I know pain. Sometimes I share it. With someone like you." When Javi delivered this to me at Lake Como, I was blown away. He channeled his inner Banksy and he expertly employed color to evoke the concept of pain. Thanks Frank for writing, thanks Iciar for coordinating, and most of all, thanks to Javi for making this art. I heard that Javi liked this piece so much that he'll be using it for an upcoming art book. Social/Sharing |
