DescriptionTarzan and Jane by Barclaw Shaw. This one used to belong to Dave Mattingly. Shaw gave it to Mattingly as a gift because he knew Mattingly was a fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of the Tarzan booksThe piece is really interesting and incorporates real sticks and 3d effects. It's made of tree branches, twigs, and 3d gesso rocks, and has the actual acrylic painting inside as well. The whole thing really looks like a labor of love and it's fascinating to study. I'll add new pictures later. It's really hard to convey in pictures how physically deep and interesting the piece is. It's basically a shallow diorama. 17.5 x 11 inches. Social/Sharing |

That's awesome! You can change the mood of the piece with how it is lit and create shadows on it.

You nailed it. It's a really unique composition, but I can understand why I haven't seen it before. It makes a painting a lot more delicate and harder to transport.
