Description
The Long Halloween is certainly one of the greatest Batman stories ever told, and it seems like every iteration of Batman since borrows from it in some way. I was thrilled when writer Jeph Loeb announced he was diving into the Long Halloween world he had created with artist Tim Sale again.

Tim is sadly gone from this world too soon, but on this page Eduardo Risso somehow manages to channel Sale while doing it in his own immutable style. A master of shadows and light, Risso here shows Commissioner Gordon lamenting the kidnapping of his son to Batman on a rainy rooftop in Gotham.

I love the droplets shadow Batman casts in the first panel, and also that second panel of a wary Gordon taking off his foggy glasses and rubbing his eyes in the rain. And how about the drenched Batman in the fourth panel - wow! Some of the rain effects in the panels were digitally added later to the published page.

Thanks to Nicolas Risso for making it as smooth a transaction as possible shipping art all the way from Argentina.

Great page, you can never go wrong with Bats & Gordon in the rain! I thought he channeled Sale beautifully in this issue.

This first issue was daunting following Sale, but Risso pulled it off flawlessly with the crime noir style he's known for.
