Out of this world!
Wow! What a fabulous "Mars Attacks Classics" cover! Nick Bradshaw was the perfect artist to draw this, given his almost obsessive attention to detail. Love the way Nick drew the Martians, detailing not only the many folds of their exposed brains, but also the mechancial details of their high tech spacesuits! So much to love here--The cool weaponry that the Martians are using as they attack humanity, the creepy cool giant insects looming behind the Martian soldiers, the innumerable flying saucers firing laser beams down on the Earth! It's just a smorgasbord of cool details wherever one looks. Awesome pick-up. congats!
"Check out the big brain on, Brett!" - He's the one on the far right.
I'm just a green Martian from outer space
You can see that the trip has left me tired and drained
So why don't you be a pal
And bring me some brains?
Guess it wasn't the dove.
MON DIEU!! This is -fantastic-, Duke, and a -PERFECT- Halloween post!! Has there ever been a character design more tailor-made for Nick Bradshaw than the Mars Attacks Martians?!? That's a negatory! I think this is (by far) the -funnest- Nick Bradshaw cover I have ever seen. He is obviously fully invested and firing on all cylinders here, packing this thing full (and I mean FULL) of sass, attitude, and ridiculous piles of detail. The hideously violent carnage, the sadistic glee of the Martians (I'm not sure if my favorite is the one to the immediate right of the central Martian, closing one eye to line up the perfect shot, or the one flying the saucer in the upper left corner, with its "ho-hum, must be a Tuesday" expression)... this is a perfect representation of everything that is right -AND- wrong with Mars Attacks (if you take my meaning :) ). This one gets to eat off the Van Buren China. I think the best compliment I can offer is, "AGGG, NACK, AGGG, NAGGG, ACKKK!". SO cool - huge congrats, Duke (and happy halloween)!
Perfect post for Halloween! And great work from the ever talented Bradshaw.
Damn that's cool! Killer cover with insane level of detail - not surprising for Bradshaw. congrats! And I'm with you on the movie, still really enjoy it to this day but myself have not consumed much other media (comics, books, etc.). I've played a little Mars Attacks on pinball machines (the Bally/Midway table released in the 90s) and digital virtual pinball versions of the game but that's about it!
Agreed. Mars Attacks always makes for a fun visual regardless of the format or medium. Nick really nails the campy fun spirit of the movie and series here. Great cover!
Bradshaw was PERFECT for this cover! Love the way he drew the Martians. Awesome!
Ha! Love these little guys.
I've never seen this cover before. Really cool to see Nick's take on the martians, plus all the great details he added to this piece. Very nice cover.
Anyone who ever held Groo
Would tell you the way I'm feeling
Anyone who ever watched with Duke
Would try to tell you what I feel inside
The movie thing as cover wanted
Got the feeling that you attacking
The only art Duke ever thought about
Wait a minute, can't Duke see that I
Want Bradshaw from the cards
Straight into your Mars, I
I feel Duke, I hope you comprehend
The Martians who tried to hurt you
He's explaining the way I'm feeling
For all the jealousy towards you
Great Nicholson’s why I'm trying to buy
As Bradshaw classics you taught me
It sends the cover into clearer dimensions
You'll never know how much you hurt me
Stay a minute, can't you see Ack I
Want Bradshaw from the Mars
Brains into your jars, I
I feel you, I hope Groo comprehends
Wow, oddly enough, I actually like Mars Attacks more in comics than I do in film, and covers like this are why, congrats!
Ack ack ACK ack! That's Martian for "What a great cover!"
Gorgeous!
Super cool!
Fun cartoony gore.
Gnak Gnak Gnak !
Nice, love Bradshaw's work!
Very cool, congrats!
Wowzers! Love this action packed cover. Bradshaw always brings the heat!
Amazing graphic goodness. It's mind-boggling to think how one can conceive of where to orient all that's going on and then illustrate the depth of it. Very cool how people are literally melting. Great piece!!
Love seeing these mega classics being revisited for the modern eye!
Each time I see a gorgeous piece like this I ask myself why I don't have any Bradshaw in my collection. He is so good! Congrats - this is a stunner!
Not sure how I missed this post, but what a spectacularly illustrated piece. The attention to detail is incredible and yet, because Bradshaw understands line weights to convey depth, everything appears crystal clear as opposed to cluttered. Congrats!
A nice range of line techniques - solid blocks for the gleam of metal, delicate explosion effects, and softer edges for backgrounds to make the action stand out. Nicely executed!
