Description

When this came up at auction, I was thinking that I needed to make a run at it. ShadowHawk is a character that left a lasting impression on me. I�ve never owned an interior page from Volume 1 of the character�s history. Toss in that ShadowHawk is perched on a gargoyle in the rain and I got hyped. Add a dash of Jim Valentino pencils and Chance Wolf inks and I�m right back in the 1990�s. Lastly, this is the issue Phil defeats Hawk�s Shadow and then he dies in a hospital.

The page is numbered #7, but it is page 9 in the published book.

This is a great way to end my 2024 collecting year!

The top panels look like Mike Ploog cartooning from the 70's with how refined the linework looks. The main image is an all timer for Shadowhawk!

Even if you're not a ShadowHawk fan, this piece is exquisitue nonetheless. LOVE the rain rendering on the bottom, and that background, as he's perched atop the gargoyle. Really does feel like Jim and Chance poured their all into that image. Big congrats!

Stunner of a page! Except for the two interior scenes at the top, most of the page is given over to a splash of Shadowhawk sitting on a gargoyle in the rain. It's a gorgeous splash, the city behind him is beautifully rendered. The inks are dark and lush, and the rain effect is perfection itself. What a great page that really reminds one of how cool the 1990s were for comic books. With Image Comics in full flighjt, great art was popping out all over the place. But I guess you had to be there...Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
