Description

I loved the Wagner/Snyder Dr. Mid-Nite mini. It was so beautifully painted by John. This colored pencil piece on textured paper was done five years before the mini was published. At some point, I'll have to reach out to John to get the background.

John and Matt did a lot of these commissions back in the day. I think John still does some these days. It's a beautifully realized image complete with smoke from one of this blackout bombs.

I was really lucky that great collector Disco Stu was looking to rehome this piece in late 2024. it had been in his collection since 1994. It was my first piece hung on my wall in 2025.

I'm glad it has foiund a good home. I wish I could remember how I came to choose to have John draw Dr. Midnite five years before the mini series came out. Maybe me asking him to do that character gave him hte idea to do the mini series 🤷‍♂️

For the time period, only he and Matt Wagner were doing these pieces with the color pencils. Certainly held up well as we didn't know if the colors would stay vibrant this many years later.
