Description

Draka the vampire lord takes a fancy to Mirela the tree-hugger:

“Don’t kill me.”

“I should. I could. But you are a strange girl. You love this forest so much that you have made it your home. Do you think you are a hamadryad, an oak nymph? You are so lovely that you could really be. Too singular and beautiful for me to put an end to your uniqueness.”

“The next morning, I woke up on my oak tree, inside my sleeping bag, as if it had all been a dream. But I know it was not a dream, because the black knight, instead of killing me, made love to me. Now call me crazy.”

“I don't think you're crazy at all, Mirela. That man... that vampire... did he tell you his name?”

“No, he also said that I would forget about him in the morning. But that wasn't the case. Even though my story is strange and bizarre, as dreams usually are... even though my memory is vague and confused, almost devoid of depth... even so, I am certain that it really happened. Don't ask me how. My body knows. My skin can't forget his kisses.”

“Wow.”

“And from a more analytical viewpoint, do you remember anything else?”

“A piece of information he gave me. He told me that our battle for the oaks was won. That the vampire park would be moved. And that's exactly what happened, just as he said...”

Harlan knows the story is plausible, because he himself came from just such a mating.

Oak Nymph Chronicles sounds like the logical next step spin-off from here. 2 people this beautiful only exist in Vampire comics & movies! You crazy kids.
