Description

This spread unusually includes three separate scenes. First, Kurjak's special anti-vampire bullets kill the dearg-dur attacking Hobbes:

“The bullets coated with the Dampyr's blood have taken effect. There's not much doubt about the nature of our troubles anymore.”

“Wh… wh… what…”

“Catch your breath and lock yourself in your room, man. It's not healthy to be wandering around tonight.”

“I… I can't find my room anymore.”

Nearby, Brand is similarly lost on an impossible Escherian stairway:

“What were those short noises? They sounded like gunshots. What other tricks has Vance come up with? Ah, I've had enough stress for one night. This damned castle is a trap. I felt like I'd already come down this staircase. Where the devil am I, damn it? If I call for help, I'll be mocked endlessly! What kind of place is this? Am I going crazy? I'm lost like a child in this maze of stairs and corridors, when I could be in Sylvaine's arms.”

Speaking of Sylvaine, she awakens to a touch as Countess Báthory emerges from her bedside mirror:

“Brand...Brand, is that you? No! The door is locked! No one can enter.”

“You are wrong, Sylvaine. I can enter anywhere.”

“Noo!”

“And now I come to you, my lass.”

The castle has become a literal Hell House.

Happy to see Hobbes was saved! But Will the Countess help or harm Sylvaine!? With all these stairs and corridors I think the park guests could really benefit from a real-time electronic map, but back in 2008 not sure only the original iPhone could cut it with GPS.

M.C. Escher panel is cool!  So is the Ring reference with vamps coming out of the mirror!
