DescriptionThis page offers great character moments as only Spiegle could make it (work), seemingly effortlessly. The first panel is a transition from the previous page as we find ourselves in the habitation of the bar tender. Spiegle cleverly use that small panel to tie it in with the story of the mother cat which is looking at the window (and most likely sensing her kitten). The use of light and shadows on its fur is nicely done. The second panel very apply grounds the scene with great believable backgrounds of the inside of the flat and staging of the character that looks so genuine. It’s so good an establishing shot that no backgrounds are needed for the rest of the page. I particularly like how the bartender is leaning some give milk to the kitten. Then in the insert, said kitten reacts violently to the bartender trying to pet it. Why? Is he not mature enough to understand that he is the one feeding him or is he on to something. Is it a casual extension of the scene or an actual Chekov’s gun plot point here? The fourth panel offers a great shot of a bothered Felicity as she suspects the guy may not be as altruistic as he pretends. Her face is pitch perfect to reflect her worrying. It also gives us a sense that she is young. Then Spiegle reverses the camera to showcase the guy giving his selling speech while Felicity casually sips on her hot beverage (again, she is spot on here). Like I said, a very quiet scene that flows so effortlessly, showing how good Spiegle was at storytelling, staging, body language, well about any part of his craft. Also take note how he quietly keeps switching the camera angles to offer a variety of shots without being flashy about it (because that scene demanded a slow tempo obviously). Social/Sharing |

You speak a lot of the storytelling and page construction, which is indeed very well done. But you neglect to mention the one thing most people will care about when seeing this page, which is the fact that the cat lady is pretty good looking!

I like the set up in the last panel. I wonder if he's a nudie bar sensei who's going to train her in some pole dancing moves to make her the hottest dancer on the row.

Perhaps. Only the full story being posted will reveal that, I suppose. As a fan of Omaha the Cat Dancer though, I'd definitely be okay with that!

I dont think Spiegle was capable of drawing a bad page.
