In the dungeon, Brand is menaced by both werewolves and vampires:

�Nooo! Heeeeeelllllp!�

�What are you doing wandering around the castle alone, Mr. Brand? That can be very dangerous.�

�You! Vlad Dracula� or whoever you are� I've had enough of these stupid games! Tell your buddies back there to knock it off. They're scaring me to death!�

�My 'buddies'? Oh, I understand.�

�There they are! But why in heaven's name are they doing this? God forgive me, they look real! Real werewolves! Why?�

�Because that's what they really are, Herr Brand!� (Dracula bares his fangs.)

�Noo!�

They are werewolves, but not real; they are psychic projections of a vampire lord, just as Vlad Dracula himself is.
