DescriptionOn the first page, Vance and Erzsébet Báthory discuss the pesky intruders, and how to lure them out with Nina: “We could use her. Her man is a friend of the Dampyr, and he’s still loose in the castle, along with a rebel undead, a harmless guest, and the dangerous Harlan Draka, the Dampyr.” “How do you know all this?” “The Master knows. He senses the presence of the Dampyr. He knows that he has entered the castle.” “He must die. The Master must kill him.” “Are you afraid, Countess? Afraid of returning to oblivion? Calm down. Your fate is tied to that of the Master. And soon he will be even further away, when he has drunk the blood of all the human prisoners. You and your girlfriend, dear Brand, will also offer your blood for the great banquet. Too bad you will not be able to witness the main course... the death of the Dampyr!” Meanwhile, the heroes descend into the castle depths: “Why are we going down again? These are the dungeons. There's no way out of here. Why don't we find a way out?” “Cut it out, Hobbes. We don't want to get out, but to confront the ruler of the castle — confront him and kill him. That's our job. Not to mention that the other missing people could end up like your friend, and we'd like to try to avoid that, if possible.” “They're already all dead, and we'll die too.” “Cut out your whining… or I'll kill you myself. If you want to look for the exit, go ahead.” “Alone? Without you, I'm done for!” “So don’t… These roars… what?” “They sound like werewolves. Lock and load, boys. They're right around the corner.” Tesla doesn't usually threaten to murder frightened civilians, which shows how out of sorts she is after getting clawed by the were-panther Chordewa.
