DescriptionTwenty-Four Years Ago The World's Greatest Super-Heroes formed the World's Greatest Super-Powered Team!"It was the beginning of an era full with Bold Concepts and Mighty Forms. That era is over. The tradition continues. Gerry Conway and Chuck Patten have made major changes in the time honored League. There are some New Faces in the ranks...and some old hands are taking charge in unexpected ways. DC Comics proudly presents the New JLA in the 1984 Justice League of America Annual, on sale July 18. More than a New Look! The Best is Coming! First appearance of Justice League of America: Detroit. First appearance of Gypsy, Vibe and Steel (Henry Heywood III). Splash introducing the new JLA. Chuck Patton did a phenomenal job on this piece. Great design and great execution. The Justice League never looked better. The minute I saw the art I wanted it. You ever get the feeling that there are some pieces that are just made to be in your collection. When you know you know. For me, this is one of those pieces. Luckily I was able to win this one at auction. A big get for me. The classic JLA lineup on top - Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Atom, Green Lantern, Flash and Green Arrow! With The new JLA on the bottom - Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Steel, Gypsy, Aquaman, Vixen, Enlongated Man and Vibe. DC Sampler #2 pgs. 18-19 The NEW JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA by artists Chuck Patton and Tom Mandrake. On two 11X17 boards. 1984 Social/Sharing |

Similar to the GS X-Men #1 layout, this introduced a whole new lineup of the JLA with this image! Very slick work by Patton and Mandrake who are not known to work this sharp. You can find homages to this in from guys who love DC lore like Alex Ross.

Man, I LOVED getting DC Sampler. My first love from it was the New Teen Titans double page splash, to this day my favourite Titans group shot. But I always felt this JLA DPS was my second favourite piece. Such a classic team shot of the original lineup and the bold and exciting look of the Detroit crew on the bottom half ALMOST made me read it. As a Marvel fan who couldn't afford nearly all of their titles I wanted to read, I just didn't have enough money to also add more DC books either. Wonderful memories!

I'm not the biggest DC guy, but I really enjoyed those DC Sampler issues and this is a great image! Congrats!
