Tom Derenick Doppelgangers #4 Sandmen

Tom REALLY nailed #4 in the doppelgängers pieces he is drawing for me! I feel this was especially hard, as I'm mixing multiple genres. In chronological order, the far left has the original Sandman, Wesley Dodds, as he first appeared in 1939. The middle two right characters are Dodds and his sidekick Sandy Hawkins when they were re-envisioned by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941. The upper left is the Garrett Sandford Sandman, again re-envisioned by Simon & Kirby in 1974. The upper right has Morpheus, created by Neil Gaiman in 1989. Finally, the middle left character is Sandy after he grew up and became "Sand" in Geoff John's JSA series in 1999. Confused yet? :) Various writers and artists have build on these characters for decades, and Tom had the daunting task of trying to capture the essences of them all in a single image. I'm so impressed by how he ties in Morpheus' dream realm together with Sandford's, along with the earth-manipulating powers of Sandy Hawkins. Outstanding work!
