Description

Jerry Grandenetti at the height of his Eisner period.
Grandenetti drew all of the Dr. Drew strips in Rangers Comics. Later, his style would change radically as he moved on from his Eisner influence.

Definitely rare to see Grandenetti art like this that is so intricate.  He's  bit more crude and forceful by the time he went to DC for horror and war stories.

Much more. His style actually changed radically on the Dr. Drew series. The early stories featured Grandenetti at the high of his Eisnerish period. At that time, he could mimic Eisner so well on The Spirit that years later Eisner could not tell what he did v. what Grandenetti did!
The early Dr. Drew art, like this page, exemplify Grandenetti's Eisner impression. In later stories, Grandenetti radically changed his style, with some Wood influence, on the way to his early DC war style, on strips like Mademoiselle Marie and Gunner & Sarge.
While I like some - but not all - of his DC work, my favorite Grandenetti remains his early Fiction House work, especially Dr. Drew, which was great storytelling and atmosphere. He also did a nice Senorita Rio story.
