Is there anything better than a crazy precise, unimaginably detailed, ultra-stippled Virgil Finlay scratch board piece?? The more I examine Finlay’s art, the more scared I get — was this guy human?? From his "Astrology Sketchbook" series in the 60’s. 6” x 6” on scratch board. Lovely.

Scratchboard was a stellar process and the sci-fi artists such as Finlay were masters.

Great example of the power of the astrological symbolism during the 50's. These Finaly illustrations are as precise as clockwork.

Since I am a Scorpio, I picked up the preliminary for this piece several years ago. Still hope to get a nice finished Finlay though, especially a black and white piece tha shows off his line work and stippling technique.
