If he did anything out of honor in today's climate of fear, there would be no mercy and it's off to El Salvador for him and Dondi unless they can raise 5 million dollars apiece. Hasen's artwork and Dondi's backstory made it easy for the audience to sympathize with him. He might not have gotten the same reception if this was about Vietnam era refugees.
