Description1990ink on Bristol board, acetate, zipatone 20 h × 17 w in (51 × 43 cm) This original wraparound cover art by Marshall Rogers was created for Marvel Comics Presents #40, and features a rare ensemble including Wolverine, Overmind, Wonder Man, and Hercules. In a moody nod to Wolverine’s “Patch” persona, the front cover places him aboard a traditional Chinese junk ship, suggesting intrigue in an exotic locale. The back cover brings together Wonder Man and Hercules in bold, muscular form—a signature of the late 1980s Marvel aesthetic. The layout includes all original title paste-ups and the classic Marvel corner box art applied directly to the board. Though best known for his genre-defining work on Detective Comics in the 1970s, Marshall Rogers brought the same stylized approach to his Marvel work, marked by sharp design, distinctive grayscale shading, and an architectural sense of composition.
