Dampyr #069 (2006) pages 75-76: Stadium of Death

Guerrero flashes back to 1973, when the National Stadium in Santiago was used by Pinochet's junta as an internment camp for dissidents. In 2003, Chile designated it a national monument to memorialize the atrocities that occurred there.

(Security forces) “Don't get up, sons of bitches. Anyone who moves will be executed immediately.”

(Ernesto Guerrero) “Juan! They took you too. What are you writing?”

(Juan Lopez) “A song, my friend. That's what I know how to do. Only the words. The music hasn't come to me yet. I've already seen them kill four people with clubs! The music is weak inside me, but you'll see...”

“You! Didn't you hear? You may not stand up!” (A soldier strikes Guerrero with the butt of his rifle.)

“Ow!”

“Enough, brother. Don't hit him again. He's a son of the people, like you.” (Juan Lopez takes hold of the butt of the rifle.)

“What's going on here, soldier? Are you going to let this 'Red' grab your rifle?”

“No, captain, sir.”

“But I know this guy well... Juan Lopez, the singer. Take him away. We'll teach him to sing the right songs.”

“That new blow had paralyzed me, weak as I was. But I had enough presence of mind to hide Juan's notebook under my clothes. Then I saw Alan.”
