Description

Jimmy Frise (1891-1948) was the longtime cartoonist for the Toronto Star, for which he created Life�s Little Comedies in 1920. Fries renamed the feature to Birdseye Center in 1923, and for the next 25 years he had a hit on his hands. The audience really related to this quirky cast of characters, set in a small fictitious Canadian town. I�m very pleased to offer a rare, rare, rare Birdseye Center original, most likely from the 1930s. Featuring Cap and Pigskin Peters, the two find out that they have super-charged The Noazark, Cap�s ship, much to the surprise of everyone on the dock. The piece features a good many of the main characters from the strip, and Frise�s ink work during the period was simply sweet as hell. Measuring 14�x 18��, the strip is in very nice condition, with a tiny piece of the lower right corner missing, and a little bit of White-out here and there. This piece came from cartoonist Doug Wright�s collection, and is labeled as such on the reverse. Wright continued Frise�s Juniper Junction strip in the late 1940s, after Frise passed away. As I mentioned earlier, Frise�s original art is quite scarce, so this is a rare opportunity. $750.00 + 17.00 first class shipping.
