Description

"El Loco Sexton" - Ep.2 "Muerte de un scheriff" - pag.13 "La Ballata di Joe Barrow" 1976

Media Type: Pen and Ink

Artists:
Arturo Del Castillo - penciller
Hector Oesterheld alias Enrico Veronese - writer

EL LOCO SEXTON The book title "El Loco Sexton" - Episode 2 "Muerte de un scheriff" - published also in Italy as "La Ballata di Joe Barrow" after Skorpio and Lanciostory in the 1976. This episode was drawn in pencil and inked by Arturo Del Castillo, and written by the legendary Hector German Oesterheld (creator of El Eternauta) and the saga book "El Loco Sexton" published in the 1976 was also the same year of his disappearance. The story comes with a story teller Herbert Sexton (a sort of alterego of Hector Oestereld), talking about the actions of the scoundrel Joe Barrow, a true anti-hero, that gives to us a new darker image, cruel, dusty and realistic of Western frontier, very different from the usual idea that cinema and classic comics trasmits just till that years, of a golden frontier, with idealized heroic cowboys that looked often only as knights of justice.

The hugh detail of the center page, was used for the colored italian cover "La ballata di Joe Barrow". And the details of filled areas with geometric tile nets witch seems zipatone are instead all drawn in ink by Del Castillo.

The style is definitely 70's with the high detail and the ink pooling dots.  Maybe from the emergnce of ink pen tools of the time.
