It's based on the 2012 series not the 1980's.

You're familiar with a 2012 series? I thought you said you hadn't read new comics in decades.... So, you enjoyed the rebooted veersion better than the original?

Back in 2012 I was reading Amethyst, Jonah Hex and Conan....that was it and then around 2019 I stopped everything since Conan was the only thing left of the 3 being published. Yes 2012 Amethyst was good.

Ah, this all makes so much more sense now. Since I was under the impression you hadn't been reading ANY comics for decades, I couldn't understand why you'd get pieces featuring a contemporary version of Amethyst. I assumed you were familiar withthe 1983 series, commissioned Lopresti to do some pieces for you, and then received modern day rebooted versions by accident. Well I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the reboot. I'd love to reread the original maxi-series again one day.
